Charlie Hall Chase & Others.

Well, it's here - CHARLIE HALL CHASE DAY! The day most of us tie to the title of the start of the NH season proper.

My bets today:

Ascot 3.00 - VIA GALILLEI (EACH WAY)
Ascot 3.40 - QUILINTON (EACH WAY)

Wetherby 3.20 (The Charlie Hall Chase) - NACARAT

Would love to see TIME FOR RUPERT deliver, but at this stage in the season I think NACARAT could have fitness advantage over the others, as Tom George has been firing in winners. I also think dispite carrying top weight he still imo, is a peg ubove the rest untill the 7yo's have stamped their authority over a horse like him. His front running technique should be a bonus for him today and I think he'll lead them all a merry dance, having proven he goes well fresh. There is no doubt in my mind however, that TIME FOR RUPERT is a very special horse, especially around Cheltenham, and ignoring his below par run in the RSA last season which, we can all forgive him for (excuses that day), he'll definitely be a prominant horse in the results this season.
What a fantastic renewal of the Charlie Hall Chase this is though. A real star studded field paves way for a facinating race at 3.20.

Thank God for Shammy.

How they went 15/10/2011

Ascot 3.35 - DICK TURPIN (EACH WAY) - 5th/8 - Dissapointing.
Ascot 4.10 - TWICE OVER (EACH WAY) - 10th/12 - Looked hard at work from a long way out.

Cheltenham 2.05 - SHAMMY BUSKINS (EACH WAY) - 3RD @ 40/1 Cheltenham 2.40 - EDGBRIAR (EACH WAY) - 8th/8 - Pulled hard for first part, front ran, never asked any questions and faded dramatically.
Cheltenham 3.50 - FROSTED GRAPE (EACH WAY) - 4th/6 <--- Non runners reduced field number. Never looked comfortable, got in close to fences and never looked like winning. Lucky to even finish 4th.

So thanks to Shammy Buskins I just about broke even, but everything else was a disaster, including France beating Wales in the Rugby.

Great to be back at the home of jumping today, but I've got to say that the highlight for me, and many others (even the hardcore jumps fans!) was the mighty machine that is Frankel. He yet again made the others look like donkeys.

O. M. G.

Well, bit of an exciting day ahead isn't it?

Very quick blog post with my all each way bets today:

Ascot 3.35 - DICK TURPIN (EACH WAY)
Ascot 4.10 - TWICE OVER (EACH WAY)

Cheltenham 2.05 - SHAMMY BUSKINS (EACH WAY)
Cheltenham 2.40 - EDGBRIAR (EACH WAY)
Cheltenham 3.50 - FROSTED GRAPE (EACH WAY)

No report today of last weekends bets... plus, all I can say is that last weekends was poor!

Also, please go have a listen to the first episode of a new podcast that features many familiar names from the Twitter circuit, that will be a weekly fix during the jumps season. I believe it's available on iTunes, or you can listen here : www.jumpspodcast.podbean.com
It's the first one, so forgive us all the blips, background noise, and unprepared bumbling!

Have a FANTASTIC day, I'm off to watch Wales kick France's butt.

That Chepstow Meeting. You know the one.

How They Went Yesterday:

Newton Abbot 1.50 - TIMESAWASTIN (WIN) - WON Yes, odds on, but looked a certainty and despite being a right monkey he delivered.
Newton Abbot 3.30 - SALONTYRE (EACH WAY) - 6/10 - No excuses as I could see, just better horses.
Newton Abbot 4.05 - PARAZAR (EACH WAY) - 4/9 - Lost out on a place by 9 lengths. Stayed on fairly well after looking a no hoper, but seemed to be under pressure for a fair amount of the race. Further needed?

Ok, it's time for 'That Chepstow Meeting'. You know, the one where a few big names start creeping out of their yards for first runs of the season. And oh boy have I missed them!

Todays Bets:

Chepstow 2.25 - MAJOR DANCE (EW) - Little to show he is better than any thing else in the race, but decent odds and a first run for Nicky Henderson with AP up.

Chepstow 3.00 - GRAND VISION (EW) - Placed in 2 average bumpers but Tizzard's horses seem to be going ok at the moment and the stable does well at Chepstow. Also tempted by LUNDY SKY.

Chepstow 3.35 - KANTURK (EW) - There's gotta be a reason why AP gets off a Jonjo/McManus horse right?

Chepstow 4.10 - No bet for me in this race, would love to see CUE CARD prove himself a bloody good chaser, but with SILVINIACO CONTI in the mix, it won't be easy. Looking forward to this race though!

Chepstow 4.45 - PEAKS OF FIRE (WIN) - Vaughan/Johnson are flying. Irish form consistent. I'd back it each way but only 6 runners so risking a win bet.

Chepstow 5.20 - AWARD WINNER (EW) - Impressed me last time, i'm a bit concerned that AP has chosen the other McManus runner, but having a go anyway for each way money.

Chepstow 5.50 - FIVE DREAM (EW) & REVE DE SIVOLA

Chepstow 6.20 - VELATOR (EW)

Not a tipster.

Newton Abbot 7/10/11

With the temperature dropping at last, and tomorrows Chepstow card including the likes of CUE CARD and REVE DE SIVOLA, it would appear the jumps season proper is nearly upon us! EXCITED!!!!!!

Had a few bets this arvo to celebrate Ruby Walsh riding at Newton Abbot - another sign that the jumps are on the return!

Newton Abbot 1.50 - TIMESAWASTIN (WIN) - Evan Williams is on fire, Ruby's on it, ingnoring last times mistake at Ffos Las.
Newton Abbot 3.30 - SALONTYRE (EACH WAY) - Consistant sort on the flat and over jumps, should be in the money if racing like last time here.
Newton Abbot 4.05 - PARAZAR (EACH WAY) - May be a dodgy choice, but I'm risking a rekindling with the visor fitted.

Remember, I'm no tipster! ;)

Betting Diary - Day 3

Lovely to see some really good jumping action yesterday, and even nicer when you've picked the winner of The Summer Plate at 10/1!

Here's what happened:

Market Rasen 2.05 (Summer Hurdle) - Knight In Purple (ew) 9th/16 (reports that softening ground an issue)
Market Rasen 2.40 - Arctic Reach (ew) 2nd/9 @10/3
Market Rasen 3.15 - Font (ew) 11th/14
Market Rasen 3.45 (Summer Plate) - Qulinton (ew) WON @ 10/1 & Schindlers Gold PU
Market Rasen 4.55 - I'm The Decider 2nd/5
Market Rasen 5.30 - Exulto (ew) 4th/7

Newbury 2.20 - Jimmy Styles (ew) 3rd @ 12/1

So not too bad a day as I still came through with a small profit.

Today's bets:

Newton Abbot 2.55 - Old Brigade (ew)

Stratford 3.15 - Shammy Buskins (ew)
Stratford 3.50 - On The Bridge (ew)
Stratford 4.25 - Tarvini (ew)
Stratford 5.25 - Kadablue (ew)

The 3.15 looks like a really competitive race with plenty that I like including Commemoration Day, No Panic and It's Like That but purely for that little bit more ew value I've opted to go for Shammy Buskins who has won me a fair bit in the past. Fingers crossed!

An iconic year for racing continues.

Many were miffed by Mikael Barzalona's celebrations before the line came in the Derby last Saturday, but I for one loved it.

Mikael Barzalona - a new master on the flat.

It COULD have all ended in tears, but it didn't thank goodness, and the 2011 Epsom Derby is a race we will all remember deep into the future.
The Cheltenham Gold Cup proved that Long Run was the new kid on the block as he left old time heros Kauto Star and Denman behind him and this years Derby has proved that Mikael Barzalona is most definitely the new master jockey on the flat.
I find the image of Pour Moi crossing the line one of the most iconic images of flat racing I have seen for years. It's miles ahead of the dreary view that race win celebrations are unprofessional and frowned upon by old time trainers and old time racing folk. The pure passion in his celebrations fed straight through to my heart and I hadn't even backed Por Moi! It was the same elation you could see when Tony McCoy won the Grand National on Don't Push it. Purely Iconic.

Pure elation from the Frenchman.

Elation like this is a fantastic promotion for our sport, and misery guts have been waffling on about it way too much. It made it a more exciting, heart stopping race, which is what we need on one of the biggest days in UK racing. I'm of course not encouraging before line celebrations in the future, especially celebrations that pull on a horses mouth like Barzalona's, but we should think back fondly on what was a dramatic and emotional Derby.

Plus, he looked totally rad!

Totally rad.

Fallon - No he Khan't

Well, a drama dotted few hours on the morning of the Derby. I'm still in disbelief. Rubbish, rubbish news for racing again. Hopefully Carlton House can win to shove this insignificance under the carpet a bit.

Carlton House

I find it an extremely petty and childish affair. Kieron Fallon should have learnt his lesson by now to draw well clear of any controversy, but has yet again made himself look like a dishonest and selfish figure. And it was all looking on the up for you Kieron!! Doh!
Native Khan's owner, Mr Araci, clearly had his feathers ruffled, but to drag this through the courts? I find it ridiculous personally.
Jockeys are always getting jocked off, usually down to discression of owners or trainers, but is this a case of spitting the dummy out when a jockey does it? Not that i'm trying to defend Fallon you must understand. Fallon apparantly had signed a contract and he should have kept his word, but in my opinion, the owners should have been a bit more dismissive ie, breaking all future connection with the jockey, or Ed Dunlop could have done the same, rather than treating it as such a serious matter and blowing everything out of proportion.
ANYWAY, I think Johnny Murtagh is a way better pilot, and I'd choose him to ride over Fallon any day!

Native Khan

I've had my ew money on Native Khan for a few days. There is doubt to wether he'll stay in according to his breeding, but i'm not worried by the stamina issue, but have a slight worry about his speed... not that that'll matter if the race is run as slow as yesterday's Oaks.
All in all, I hope with all my might that Carlton House has them all behind him come the line. What a day it'd be for Queenie. You only ever see her grinning properly and genuinely with her horses, as opposed to that gritted teeth thing she does when she's accepting flowers from small children, or applauding the winner of Britain's Got Talent at the Royal Variety Show.

Good luck to you all today, no matter who you hate the most. I'd egg them both.

Fillies

Hola! It's been another fairly lengthy gap since you were lucky enough to get a blog post out of me, but never fear, I'm still around! ;)
So, i've enjoyed a nice little holiday in Spain where I wanted to see the Spanish Andalucian horses, and flamenco dancers, but saw neither of. However we did manage to find authentic Spanish Tapas after 4 days of looking, (some english run restaurants tried to fob us off by putting onion rings and chicken nuggets on their 'tapas' menu). I won't even begin to bore you with the details of encountering a man on the very crest of the Rock of Gibralter who'd ridden his moped all the way to the top to relieve some tension... if you catch my drift!

Anyway, enough of that. It's Oaks day!!
Firstly, I'm looking forward to the Coronation Cup a lot more than I am the Oaks. It's a small, yet perfectly formed field. I'd love to see a favourite of mine, Dandino do the biz, but he'll probably be a bit outclassed here. St Nicholas Abbey surely isn't a danger to the fantastic Midday is he? It is however, a cautious statement to make, allbeit with a question mark at the end. The fact is, no one really knows how good he is.

The Oaks looks wide wide open to me. I've taken advantage of the 'Blue Bunting wins, money back' promo that William Hill have going on. I've had a WIN bet (yes... i've had a WIN bet) on Zain Al Boldan (9/1). My each way bet goes on the other Mick Channon runner Fork Handles, for three reasons. 1) It's been backed from 100s into 50/1 over night. 2) Some good reports from people (including @Erm_Racing who's heard she's been working better than her stable mate at home). 3) I asked the dog who was going to win the Oaks and she touched my hand with her paw when I said number 6. So that's a sealed deal then.

Those are my only bets so far, but updates on any last minute bets will no doubt be tweeted (@eachwayemily).

Zain Al Boldan

Last but not least, you may know I've recently taken part in the Filly Factor (a comp run by Racing For Change via www.lovetheraces.com to find the first female commentator). I unfortuantly didn't make it passed the 2nd round and my dreams briefly crashed around me, but I'm now more determinded than ever to get into commentating, and i'm going to give it a go the proper way! The feedback from my audition was generally that my voice wasn't strong enough, so I'm going to shout more from now on.
Jokes aside, I'm hoping that seeing as the competition is being run by Racing For Change, we see some new faces in the next round and not a recycle of the same old same old. I know the competition has angered a few people, infact Sean Boyce wrote a whole blog post about how hideous he found it, so it'd be nice to see a good outcome from the competition and not just a brief flash in the pan of female commentating. It's always nice to prove Sean Boyce wrong isn't it?

LOSER!

Well, I officially went thought the entirity of this years Cheltenham Festival without a winner!! Worst festival ever for me. Infact the worst 4 days I've had in a long time! I did have a few each way returns on some placed horses, but all in all, I think I'm going to have to swindle some extra work to make up for throwing all my wages at the bookies.

Pic - My day one losers.

Staying well clear of anything for a few days, as I'm saving myself for Aintree.

Highlight of the Festival - the overwhelming emotion when Denman and Kauto jumped the 2nd last in unision in the Gold Cup. Literally thought my heart was going to explode.

I'm still a little bit bitter that Long Run denied Denman, but WHAT A RACE. It really had the blood pumping, plus i'm excited to see another possible super star on the scene. My dislike of Long Run has only been because deep down I knew he was the threat to the old boys!

Roll on Aintree!

Thursday, 17 March 2011

Day 3 of the Festival...still looking for first winner!

Ok, I have to say that the first 2 days of the Festival, have for me been the worst 2 days of the Festival in terms of betting... EVER. Infact, I can't remember 2 days together that have been as bad as this for me for a long, long time.
Yesterday was a disaster, So Young and Alfa Beat finishing 3rd and 4th respectively, but on win bets! Damn.
Only return was courtesy of AP McCoy on Wayward Prince who finished 3rd in the RSA on an each way bet.
The disapointment of Time For Rupert completely flumping hit home hard. I'd been waiting for this race all season and had a fair clout of ante post money on him (well, fair clout for me anyway). The horse never looked happy, or at all interested in racing. I will be looking forward to seeing him at the Aintree meeting with a race in him, especially as Paul Webber has a pretty good record with runners at the Liverpool meeting.
It seems I'm not the only one in the losing boat, as many others seem to be struggling this time too. All except the Irish of course.
Right, can I pull back some £££££££ today? I'd like to at least get back to square one please God!

MY bets today (choose your own!!!!)

1.30 - LOOSEN MY LOAD @ 7/1 EACH WAY
2.05 - KNOCKARA BEAU @ 16/1 EACH WAY
2.40 - HEY BIG SPENDER @ 20/1 EACH WAY
3.20 - RESTLESS HARRY @ 40/1 EACH WAY
4.00 - PIRAYA @ 33/1 EACH WAY
4.40 - BILLIE MAGERN @ 14/1 EACH WAY

I've gone for all the 'plugging on' sorts today. They are all horses that might be boxing ubove their weight a bit, but with some bookies paying out 4 and 5 places on a couple of races, i'm taking advantage!

I'm looking forward to the World Hurdle. I'm hoping the handsome BIG BUCKS can shake off the impressive looking grey, Grands Crus, as much as I love him too.

Good Luck today everyone!

Day 2 Fancies @ The Festival

Currently these are my bets for Day 2 at Cheltenham. Left a couple of races out as I still want to see who's going where, especially as there's still about a billion horses left in the Coral Cup.

NH Challenge
MAJOR MALARKEY - EACH WAY

Neptune Investment Nvcs Hurdle
MEGASTAR - EACH WAY

The RSA
TIME FOR RUPERT - WIN
WAYWARD PRINCE - EACH WAY

Queen Mother Champion Chase
MASTER MINDED - WIN
SOMERSBY - EACH WAY

MY OFFICIAL BETS FOR DAY ONE

Happy Cheltenham Eve everyone!

I've been sorting them out for day one, and have managed to narrow them down a bit. Here's what it's looking like for me at the moment:

Supreme Novices
CUE CARD - WIN
RECESSION PROOF - EACH WAY
MARSH WARBLER - EACH WAY

Arkle
MEDERMIT - WIN
I can't even pick out an each way bet here!

Stewart Family Handicap Chase
REVE DE SIVOLA - EACH WAY
BLAZING BAILEY - EACH WAY

Champion Hurdle
PEDDLERS CROSS - WIN
KHYBER KIM - EACH WAY
MILLE CHIEF - EACH WAY

Cross Country
KING JOHNS CASTLE - EACH WAY

David Nicholson Mares Hurdle
L'ACCORDIONISTE - EACH WAY
ALASI - EACH WAY

Centenary Novices
SWING BILL - EACH WAY

I cannot concentrate on anything at all today. No one is likely to get any sense out of me unless asking a Cheltenham related question. This time tomorrow I shall be on course with a Guinness breakfast and my free bowler hat, waiting for that 1.30pm roar to send the runners on their way Hopefully we'll be cheering home Cue Card. Stats are indeed against him, but I think if we all followed stats we'd all be even poorer than we already might be.
I've really loved seeing everyone elses views and choices for the Festival this year. It seems there is no overhaul on to one particular horse (with just a couple of acceptions). It's such an open year, and I reckon we will see lots of suprises.

Good luck for tomorrow everyone! See you there!

CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL 2011 - Day 1 ante post selections.

This years Cheltenham Festival has been touted as one of the most open contests in years with the top quality horses entered accross the cards all seeming to have a case for a win. For each way punters like myself who like to find something at longer odds, this means there is some pretty nifty prices around on some good horses who are likely to place.

These are races on day one of the Festival (Tues 15th) where I've picked out some lively outsiders, or horses at decent odds for my each way money.

SUPREME NOVICES.
It's all been about CUE CARD, and admitedly he looks like a special horse. But beyond that there is a whole charge of massive prices and the 2nd, 3rd places will have to be filled by something. We shouldn't forget either, that in recent years the favourites haven't put their nose on the line in front. The last of these was Brave Inca in 2004 who was 7/2 favourite, beating War of Attrition (33/1) who of course went on and won a Gold Cup. There is also still talk and chinese whispers wether or not the ante post favourite will go for this race, or stand up with the big boys, taking on the Champion Hurdle, but this is something I hope does not happen!
Ebaziyan won this in 2007 at a massive 40/1, whereas the last 2 years have been won by 12/1 shots, Go Native, and a big contender in this years Champion Hurdle, Menorah. So do not rely on the favourite here.
My each way money would have gone for Sam Winner, but he is now going for the Triumph Hurdle, so I will opt for RECESSION PROOF (8/1). Not an overly huge price for him, but was impressive when beating a classy field in the Totesport Trophy at Newbury. At a bigger price, MEGASTAR (25/1) for Gary Moore would be my second selection. A very consistent horse who should have a few behind him come the line.

ARKLE
This years Arkle looks to be a very interesting race with top of the betting MEDERMIT a very worthy favourite and likely winner. After a scare earlier in the season that his enthusiasm for racing could be a problem, he has proved himself a top contender over fences, beating same race rivals here such as Rock Noir and the impressive Captain Chris.
The horse I'll be backing each way is a bit of a controversial pick as he has disapointed hugely this season, but I think MIKAEL D'HAUGENET (16/1) deserves another chance with a small each way bet from me at least. Lets not forget his impressive win in 2009 in the Ballymore, allbeit over hurdles. I'm not giving up on this one just yet! (edit: Have been advised he's more likely to be going for the RSA, so hold on to your pennies for now, but would still fancying him each way on the Wednesday).

STEWART FAMILY HANDICAP CHASE
For me there is a horse that stands out in this race at a big price. REVE DE SIVOLA (12/1) has shown himself as less than fluent over bigger obstacles, but loves it round Cheltenham, and I cannot identify much within the race that should finish in front of him. If he stands up, which he has done dispite his uncomfortable looking jumping, he should bound up that hill and be very close, if not in front. And you can be certain that his jumping has been worked on at home ready for Cheltenham.

CHAMPION HURDLE
What. A. Race. I am literally dribbling over this one. Packed to the brim with superstar horses, it is a shining light at this years festival, and one that I for one cannot wait for. It's a race that's baffling many of us, but I am in camp PEDDLERS CROSS (6/1). He still remains unbeaten, and one of his scalps includes Binocular, although admitedly Binocular looked below par that day. He and other big fancy Menorah both have the course form, as both are winners from last years Festival, but it's Peddler's that edges it for me. KHYBER KIM (16/1) looks a big price due to a disapointing last time out at Kempton, but I can look passed that and he will have the each way money. Another horse I think could run well at a huge price is CLERKS CHOICE (50/1), but he will have it to do to be in the top 3 in this company.

It's coming soon!

I know some of you are itching to hear what decent horses at decent prices I've picked to back each way at the festival! It will all be revealed very, very soon. Promise.

RP Chase & Eider.

Ok, a quick little summary of my bets today.

2.15 Newcastle - DONTPAYTHEFERRYMAN @ 6/1 EACH WAY
3.15 Newcastle - BALLYFOY @ 10/1 EACH WAY
3.00 Kempton - POLYFAST @ 20/1 EACH WAY - Although stamina maybe an issue, but at the price of 20/1, and the association with the super in form Henderson/Geraghty team, i'll risk those stamina worries.
-PIRAYA @ 22/1 EACH WAY - Very tiny each way bet. Think he'll be outclassed here, but he's one of our faves.

Also have a Lucky 15

NACARAT, TOUBAB, BALLYFOY, DONTPAYTHEFERRYMAN.

Can't find anything else I fancy running in a race with 8 or more runners, so nothing much for me to feast on today. I'm really looking forward to the Racing Post Chase, it's one of my favourite races of the racing calendar. My heart wants NACARAT to come home in front, but there is also a soft spot for PIRAYA, although as I said before, he could struggle today. I also think HEY BIG SPENDER could do a nice job, but is a bit too hit n' miss for me. Would be fantastic for the Tizzards to win a big un though.

Maybe thinking a comb tricast in RP Chase... NACARAT, POLYFAST, HEY BIG SPENDER. Hmmm.... maybe I should pop PIRAYA in there too... and Nigel Twiston Davies sounded keen on RAZOR ROYALE.
Oh sod it! I haven't got a clue! Can't wait for the race to be off.
Good Luck!

Take Two.

So It's Totesport Trophy day again, rescheduled after meeting was abandoned following the tragic deaths of Fenix Two and Marching Song at Newbury last weekend.
Just a quick post to say all my orginal fancies stand as they are from last Saturday (except horses that are non runners this time of course).

Well done to everyone involved for getting this rescheduled and on Channel 4.

Saturday, 12 February 2011

The proper stuff.

I drew a blank yesterday with the best being SIMPLY BEN who finished 4th in the bumper at Kempton. Never mind, today is another day, and I cannot go a Saturday without a flutter, and
what a brilliant days racing we have ahead of us today, with some proper horses and proper races.

My bets today:

1.55 Newbury - SANFROID @ 8/1 EACH WAY
This fella's last win was a long time ago, but I'm risking some pennies today, confident on him getting a place. He's been very consistent over his last few runs and last time at Warwick he was a close third behind the seemingly improved Mobaasher, and the more favoured stable mate Alfie Spinner.

2.25 Newbury (AON) - MAHOGANY BLAZE @ 25/1 EACH WAY
I know, I know, but he's becoming an old friend of mine. I'm a bit gutted there's only 7 runners, so I'm counting on him running on for 2nd. That's if he doesn't unship his jock! I honestly think he's out of his depth today against this company, but I'd be the fool if he pulled it off and I didn't have at least a 50p ew bet on him.

3.00 Newbury (GAME SPIRIT) - No each way here for me as only 6 runners. Fancy a rev f/c TCHICO POLOS & I'MSINGINGTHEBLUES

3.35 (TOTESPORT TROPHY) - Ok I've gone for three. Yes three. This race has done my head in over the last 24hrs. Initially I wanted to go with TIGER O'TOOLE but I've decided last time was definitely a fluke.
So these are my 3:
-RECESSION PROOF @ 14/1 EACH WAY
Unexposed, but stepping up against some better company today. Has to prove himself but worth a risk.

-PALOMAR @ 33/1 EACH WAY
Great run in the Lanzarote. Great each way price, and big field will not bother him.

-DRILL SERGEANT @ 25/1 EACH WAY
Can't believe he's such a big price. Yes there are better horses in the race and doesn't look the simplist of sorts, but asides from a bad race in the Lanzarote, he's done very little wrong in my eyes.

Ok... 4 then.
- SIRCOZY @ 80/1 EACH WAY
Just a shot in the dark seeing as Gary Moore does very well in this race and is in smashing form at the mo.

A couple for Kempton.

Yesterday.

A few flops yesterday, but ended up with a 2nd and two 3rds so I didn't make a loss.
I was a bit gutted thought, when Aiden Coleman jumped off ABSTRACT ART who decided to try and ram raid the first fence. I felt sure he was my best bet of the day.
Horses to place yesterday were:
2.10 Huntingdon - 2nd QUEL BRUERE who I'd had at 14/1, but returned 9/1. Happy times.
2.40 Huntingdon - 3rd MARC OF BRILLIANCE. On at 18/1.
4.40 Huntingdon - 3rd TEMPEST RIVER. On at 16/1 in the morning, returning at 10/1.

Others were - UNSEATED RIDER, PULLED UP, 10/14, 8/14

Today.

Today's bets are:

2.35 Kempton - COUSIN MAGGIE @ 25/1 EACH WAY
4.55 Kempton - SIMPLY BEN @ 16/1 EACH WAY &
- GLEANN EAGAS @ 20/1 EACH WAY

I'm thinking about having some sort of forcast bet on the 3.45. CRACK AWAY JACK to beat PUNCHESTOWNS. Controversial!

BIG PRICED EW BETS FOR YOUR THURSDAY

Morning folks!

For the first time in a few days I've found some good ew bets to place. Infact there are a whole lot of big priced horses out and about today who have decent chances of making the places.

Here goes:

2.00 Taunton - ABSTRACT ART @ 6/1 EACH WAY
5.00 Taunton - SMOKEY GEORGE @ 7/1 EACH WAY
1.40 Huntingdon - NABOUKO @ 18/1 EACH WAY
2.10 Huntingdon - QUEL BRUERE @ 14/1 EACH WAY
2.40 Huntingdon - MARC OF BRILLIANCE @ 18/1 EACH WAY
3.40 Huntingdon - BAN UISCE @ 11/1 EACH WAY
4.40 Huntingdon - FINMERELLO @ 14/1 EACH WAY &
- TEMPEST RIVER @ 16/1 EACH WAY

I'm expecting a few suprises at Huntingdon today. A day to lay the favourites I'd say. Now sit back and watch every favourite hose up in front! :)

Looking forward to hopefully seeing my Champion Hurdle fancy PEDDLERS CROSS out next week. Even more confident after seeing Binocular's strange run at Sandown. More to come on all this... BECAUSE...

...COMING SOON!!!!

My big priced Ante Post each way bets for the Cheltenham Festival! WTS.

ARGENTO CHASE, and a bit of an idea...

Morning!

My couple of each way bets from the week were 2 from 4. COZY TIGER and CROSS KENNON both placed to get some returns. It's been another quiet week in terms of blogging from me though I'm afraid.

But I'm back to fill your Saturday with some longer priced each way sorts.
Today we have racing from the Heavens (Cheltenham, obviously), but we unfortuantly lose the Sky Bet Chase day at Doncaster where I did have a few solid each way fancies.

My bets for today are as follows:

1.30 Cheltenham - DIAMOND BROOK @ 7/1 EACH WAY -has won both chase starts this season but a bit more of a challenge for him today, but Nick Williams will no doubt have him spot on.
3.05 Cheltenham - OHIO GOLD @ 33/1 EACH WAY - Another one who will come face to face with horses who are probably a lot better than him, but this is too big of a price to ignore for a horse that has been very consistent in all of his runs so far.
3.35 Cheltenham - RESTLESS HARRY @ 10/1 EACH WAY - Another consistent type that owes nothing but really should deserve a big win, has a fantastic chance of making the places yet again today.

Now, you're all going to laugh, but recently I had a dream (or nightmare as some people suggested) that MADISON DU BERLAIS won the Gold Cup. Obviously he's not even entered in the Gold Cup and his form has gone to... well... shit, but not one to tempt fate, i've had a TINY portion on him @ 16/1 in the Argento in the event that all other horses fall/pull up/refuse to race/feel sorry for him.

I was really looking forward to seeing TIME FOR RUPERT run today but unfortuantly we'll have to wait untill Cheltenham in March to see this future super star. Lets hope the Webber team can get him fit and well for the Festival.

One last thing... how did you all like the new look Morning Line today? Great feedback from everyone on twitter that it's been modernised and refreshed, but some comments arose that there needs to be a bit of youth on there! Maybe that means ME?!!
Get on Twitter and tweet @Channel4Racing for @EachwayEmily to be the new Barry's Bismarck... Each Way Emily's each way bet of the day!?

FEELIN' LUCKY (15)

Morning folks!

I can only give you a quickie today. Just 4 each way bets for me, singles, but also rolled into a ew Lucky 15. As tame as tame could be.

1.15 Huntingdon - KAYAAN @ 25/1 EACH WAY
1.45 Huntingdon - COZY TIGER @ 4/1
2.45 Huntingdon - CROSS KENNON @ 7/1 EACH WAY
4.15 Huntingdon - WHEREVERYOUGOIGO @ 16/1 EACH WAY

Have a Lucky (15) day.

GOLD CUP AGE FACTS.

My Saturday bets weren't overly successful, although they all came close (except for MAHOGANY BLAZE who unsteated). LOUGH DERG ran a smashing race to finish 3rd, so I had some money back from him.
I was delighted to see MASTER MINDED to hold on to the Victor Chandler Chase from a cracking finishing SOMERSBY. It was clearly not a fantastic day for him - I thought he looked sluggish and uninterested - McCoy explained he think he rode the race all wrong, but when it came to the crunch he held on.
HURRICANE FLY beat SOLWHIT again yesterday. Everyone is rather baffled to wether he will perform against the GB raiders at Cheltenham - this includes me. The Champion Hurdle is definitely the race I'm most looking forward to at this year's festival. The card is exploding with talent!! I'm a PEDDLARS CROSS fan, which, is a controversial choice in our household as my partner is in camp MENORAH. A horse who I think I may risk a couple of quids ew money on would be yesterday's third to HURRICANE FLY, THOUSAND STARS.

GOLD CUP AGE FACTS.

The last 6 year old to win the Gold Cup was MILL HOUSE in 1963. The only 6 year old entered into this years race is LONG RUN.

The last 11 year old to win was MANDARIN in 1962. 11 YOs - DENMAN, KAUTO STAR.

In the last 20 years, 17 Gold Cups have been won by 7, 8 and 9 YOs. 9 seeming to be the best age with 7 wins. 7 and 8 year olds both with 5 wins a piece.

Make of the age trending what you will! I'm fancying MIDNIGHT CHASE's (9YO) chances a little bit more every day!

IT'S ALL ABOUT PIPE PLACES

Hello everyone. I bet you've all missed me.
No bets for a few days as I've been pretty busy. I'm back today with my Saturday selections and here they are:

2.25 Ascot - I'M SO LUCKY @ 33/1 EACH WAY
Plucky sort who I like watching. He's against a lot of good horses today, but many of those opponants haven't showed in my opinion, enough decent form to make a vast each way case for. Was 4th to Master Minded last time out, Pipe's horses are running well, so I see no reason to have a little bit of ew money down for him.
I would absolutely love to see one of my favourite horses, MASTER MINDED romp home with this race today but no money from me (partly due to the short odds on price), but will be watching the Nicholls' horses for a few more days yet after the stable's form seems to have slid a little. Fingers crossed for him to come home in front though!

2.55 Ascot - LOUGH DERG @ 11/1 EACH WAY.
This little fella adores it at Ascot and has great form in this race. Has not shone this season like he has done in previous years, but 2nd to Big Bucks last time (admitidely a very distant one!) should put him in the mix if the flame still burns for race and course.

3.30 Ascot - PIRAYA @ 7/1 EACH WAY.
Another gutsy one, who me and my better half adore. Brilliant jumper and consistant so far this season.
- MAHOGANY BLAZE @ 8/1 EACH WAY.
I always have an each way bet on this chap. A fraction of his usual big price due to fantastic performance last time when finishing 3rd. Should definitely be in the places against today's company, especially with Sam Twiston-Davis on board who seems to get on with him. My only worry is current trainer form.

I've got a great competition going at the moment where you could win yourself an orginial painting of your favourite 2011 Chetlenham Festival winner. Visit www.emilyrussellart.com for details on how to enter.

ONLY A FOOL WRITES OFF KAUTO.

Only a fool would write off Kauto Star.

When it dawned on me whilst standing in the sardine packed, full capacity stands at Kempton Park yesterday that Kauto Star was not going to make history and win his 5th King George, my whole soul deflated briefly. The pre race build up was immense. Kempton staff handing out banners and every other racegoer kitted out with Kauto Star knitwear. I had to try extremely hard not to start crying as he paraded passed the stands before the start. And the cheer from the crowds as the field passed the stands on the first circuit made the Cheltenham Supreme Novices 'roar' sound like an idiot.
At the end of the back straight, it was clear that he was struggling, and school boy errors in his jumping had been a worry throughout the race. AP had him under pressure whilst Long Run and Sam Whaley-Cohen loomed. Kauto's mistake at the second last almost unshipped McCoy, and cost him 2nd place to Riverside Theatre. For a moment I wished the Henderson runners would fall into a hole in the run in, or that Henderson's horsebox had got a puncture on the way to the course. Bitter I know, but I felt real heartbreak seeing racing's brightest star being demoted to third by new kids on the block.
However, news this morning that Kauto returned with a bleed has made me think that something wasn't quite right and he wasn't 100%... well, obviously. There is a lot of talk today "should Kauto Star be retired?". At 11? Seriously? If connections thought he was passed it and thought racing him again would be too big of a risk I can understand, but I truely believe that anyone who is writing him off for this years Gold Cup, is a fool! He has drifted out to 8/1 for glory in March. EIGHT TO ONE? KAUTO STAR - EIGHT TO ONE? This must be some sort of joke. There was clearly a problem at Kempton yesterday and it'll be a problem that will be nurtured within the best yard in the country. A problem that is to be solved. Maybe he won't storm up that Cheltenham hill in front this year, but he'll sure as hell run a good race, just as he did yesterday - he still ran a cracker when he was clearly not feeling comfortable. So 8/1 is looking a rather tasty proposition for me!

Congratulations to Long Run who was spot on yesterday and given a peachy ride by Sam Whaley-Cohen. I'll have no money on him for Cheltenham though. I'm still rather confused when it comes to him.
Also utterly baffled by how well Riverside Theatre went. Distance and ground should not have suited, but ignoring anything trained by Nickey Henderson yesterday was a big mistake! Well done team Hendo!
My each way money was on Nacarat who kept on just out of it in 4th.

ANTE POST

I should come clean and tell you what I'm on for the Gold Cup at ante post money.

DENMAN @ 8/1 WIN - Ran a clouter at Newbury to finish 3rd in the Hennessey under a whopping weight. Will absolutely piss all over them at level weights if he races up to the November standard.

MIDNIGHT CHASE @ 25/1 EACH WAY. - Never ever ignore a Neil Mullholland chaser, no matter how big the odds are. Especially such a tough battling horse like Midnight Chase, who is a machine round Cheltenham.

New!!!!
KAUTO STAR @ 8/1 EACH WAY. - 8/1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?! Ridiculous.
(Edit... have been informed that 12/1 is available with some firms. TWELVES!? Bloody hell.)

KING GEORGE VI 2010 IN 2011.

Ok guys, I was off to a slow start this morning, and ended up being blogless. So I'm very sorry if you missed reading about my appauling bets.

Ok, on to tomorrow. Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I shall begin...

KAUTO, KAUTO, KAUTO!!!!!!
That is all really. He's going to do it isn't he? KAUTO STAR I mean... there really is nothing else that can beat him should he stay standing. He's still King and we all want him to do the business, and we all know he can! COME ON KAUTO!!!
In terms of place bets, I've gone for PLANET OF SOUND, and NACARAT.

There is much hype over LONG RUN, but i simply don't think he's good enough in tomorrow's company. I'm not convinced by his jumping for a start. In his favour... he relished his run at Kempton so course will suit.

MADISON DU BERLAIS has lost his way, but if he stays up right there is no reason why he shouldn't come close in the placings, along with ALBERTAS RUN, but I still favour PLANET OF SOUND and NACARAT over these.
RIVERSIDE THEATRE although loving Kempton, is not in the same league as the other runners.
THE NIGHTINGALE... has been backed to buggery... WHY? Yes he'll like the ground, but I can't see him getting any higher in the placings than 3rd.

Last and not least FORPADYDEPLASTERER. The horse with a massive case of seconditus. Well he'll be cured of seconditus tomorrow... but not by winning. Will not get this trip, and will not place at all against this company.

Sorry this is a rather rushed preview, but I need an early night to survive the 9 race card tomorrow.
See you at Kempton! I'll be the one rolling around in a pile of money.

COME ON KAUTO!

BRAND NEW DAY.

Yesterday 12/01/11

Oh dear. It would appear that yesterday's racing threw me off course a bit. Zero winners!
I did warn you all that I wasn't so confident yesterday, so I hope none of you took ANY notice of my bets at all.
My biggest annoyance was that the three horses I first noted in the bumper at Doncaster, finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. But instead I had to try and be clever/greedy and find something at longer/ridiculous odds to back. Oh well!
Hopefully today I can scramble back into the winners enclousure.

Let's try again.

Today 13/01/11

More horrid racing ground today, so I have tried to find some who I think should go well in the ground as much as anything. So here is what I'm doing with my pennies today:

2.40 Hereford - THE GRIPPER @ 9/1 EACH WAY
3.10 Hereford - FOURPOINTONE @ 20/1 EACH WAY
3.40 Hereford - BATHWICK QUEST @ 14/1 EACH WAY
- SHADOW DANCER @ 5/1 WIN

12.50 Catterick - MARK TWAIN @ 7/4 WIN
1.50 Catterick - SPEED DATING @ 20/1 EACH WAY
2.20 Catterick - BAY CHERRY @ 11/1 EACH WAY
- YA I KNOW @ 20/1 EACH WAY
2.50 Catterick - IMPERIAL BREEZE @ 20/1 EACH WAY

1.00 Southwell - KATE SKATE @ 5/1 EACH WAY
4.00 Southwell - FINAL SALUTE @ 5/1 EACH WAY
Yes... both each way at 5/1... but I'm much too wimpy after yesterday!

STILL SMILING.

Yesterday 11/01/11

To be honest, after my first bet of the day won at 33/1 yesterday, I didn't really mind if the others came home marked with PU,F, UR, BD, or even R, but I was still lucky enough to get a couple more returns with placed horses.
It all cracked off in the 12.40 at Newcastle. I'd only had one bet at Newcastle and FENTARA was my safe, easy each way bet of the day, hense the just one bet at Newcastle.
After they jumped the last I was pleasantly pleased that FENTARA was going to do as I suspected and place, but the two in front of her started bobbing on the spot and she nailed them on the line. So a big thank you to FENTARA and Robert Walford for kicking my Tuesday off in a good profit.
CLOWANCE HOUSE was one of my few win bets of the day, purely because I don't like backing anything each way if the odds are too short. He finished second at 4/1. In the 1.30 at Leicester I had another 2nd, this time I'm pleased to say it was an each way bet on KILLFINNAN CASTLE, who I'd had at 14/1 but returned at 9/1. Smug. Thought I was going to have the 3rd with my other each way bet in this race, but BAJAN SUNSHINE although running a cracking race, could only manage 4th. Peter Bowen's WHEREVERYOUGOIGO was my only other return yesterday, finishing 3rd. He came in at 5/1, but I snagged the 10/1 in the morning.
At Southwell MONEY MONEY MONEY finished 3rd, but unfortuantly 2 runners didn't show up so only the 1,2 paid out. Grr.. etc. Another horse finishing 2nd was KISHANDA who drifted in the betting to 9/1. If I'd been more canny I would have backed him each way instead of to win, should I have noticed the bigger price available come the off time.

To summarise, yesterday I had:
One 1st, three 2nds, and a 3rd and a 4th. Not bad from 10 bets I'd say.

Return bets:
1.00 Leicester - FENTARA - Each way @ 33/1 & 25/1 - 1st -Returning @ 33/1
1.30 Leicester - KILLFINNAN CASTLE - Each way @ 12/1 - 2nd - Returning @ 9/1
4.00 Leicester - WHEREVERYOUGOIGO - Each way @ 10/1 - 3rd - Returning @ 5/1

And now on to today:

Today 12/01/11

Now, I'm having real trouble sorting them out at Donny today. So leaving a couple of the real tough races alone.
12.35 Doncaster - NATURAL SPRING @12/1 - EACH WAY
1.05 Doncaster - MIZEN STATION @10/1 EACH WAY - A real struggle to pick this one and still not convinced, but my money is down now!
3.25 Doncaster - WORK BOY @10/1 EACH WAY

3.55 Doncaster - Wow this is quite a tough little bumper today even for my bumper skills! There are plenty in with a chance here, FOURJACKS, HINTON INDIANA, and KNOCKALONGI look like they could find themselves fighting this one out should the form book be correct. I however, am going for something with slightly more generous odds.
- CAP FALCO @ 16/1 EACH WAY
- SILENT SNOW @ 33/1 EACH WAY

2.25 Lingfield - BRANDYWELL BOY @11/1 EACH WAY

3.35 Lingield - HAVEAHAARTH @12/1 EACH WAY

Bit of a lame day for me I'm afraid.
I'm looking forward to watching the 2.50 and 2.15 at Doncaster. Wasn't brave enough to source anything in these races but I reckon they should be real gooduns.

Good luck today chaps and lasses.

STILL LUCKY.

Morning!
I'm so incredibly suprised at how many people are following my blog and using it as a genuine way to pick their bets! Thank you! But I'm still definitely not a tipster!!!!
Having quite a few each way bets again today, but before I get to that here is how I got on yesterday:

Yesterday (10/01/11)

Not many performed as well as I thought they would yesterday, but luckily DASHO winning at 16/1 means I'm still in profit, even with only two bets from nine giving me a return. PRICKLES was my other friend yesterday placing in 2nd at 10/1.

RETURNING BETS:
2.35 Wolverhampton - DASHO ew @ 14/1. 1st Returning @ 16/1
4.35 Wolverhampton - PRICKLES ew @ 10/1. 2nd Returning @ 10/1

Today (11/01/11)

My personal bets for today are as follows:

1.00 Leicester - FIRST SMASH @ 15/2 EACH WAY
- CLOWANCE HOUSE @ 3/1 WIN

1.30 Leicester - ONE MORE DINAR should win this, but I'm going with a couple of bigger priced EW horses, my name is Each Way Emily afterall.
- KILLFINNAN CASTLE @ 12/1 EACH WAY
- BAJAN SUNSHINE @ 16/1 EACH WAY

2.00 Leicester - INDIAN SPRING @ 12/1 EACH WAY

4.00 Leicester - WHEREVERYOUGOIGO @ 10/1 EACH WAY

12.40 Newcastle - FENTARA @ 25/1 EACH WAY

1.20 Southwell - MONEY MONEY MONEY @ 8/1 EACH WAY

1.50 Southwell - RAMVASWANI @ 33/1 EACH WAY

2.20 Southwell - JE SUIS UNROCKSTAR @ 4/1 WIN

2.50 Southwell - RAGHDAAN @ 16/1 EACH WAY

3.20 Southwell - KISHANDA @ 5/1 WIN

Keeping it brief today I'm afraid, as have places to be and people to see.
I'm hoping my luck continues. Happy Punting!

PRESSURE. 11/01/11

Firstly today I'd like to say a great big thank you for all the good responses to my blog so far. I'm still NOT A TIPSTER but as @_tips4punters_ pointed out, horses picked and published on this blog can be my 'selections', NOT TIPS! Tips = far too much pressure. I'm comfortable with 'selections' though. A 'Selection' is much more huggable.

Yesterday (09/01/2011)

Well, day one of my blogging went very well with my first 2 selections getting a return, allbeit with KHELEY returning as the favourite. AND I did point out the obvious and give the heads even higher up with DONTPAYTHEFERRYMAN who went about his winning business as suspected, although personally I leave odds on horses well alone as I just don't punt enough to make it worth it. I was a bit gutted as I took 11/1 on FISHFORCOMPLIMENTS in the morning who placed, coming in at a much more generous 14/1. Asides from that, I was rather chuffed. Five out of the six races yesterday at Southwell were won by the short priced favourites and no one likes to back the favourite, let alone 'select' it for a blog - boring! I'll be trying to avoid doing this as much as possible as there are already plenty of people telling us to back favourites.

1.10 Southwell - KHELEY win @ 3/1. 1st Returning @ 11/4F RETURN.
2.45 Southwell -FISHFORCOMPLIMENTS each way @11/1. 2nd Returning @ 14/1 RETURN.
3.55 Southwell - FAIR BUNNY win @ 7/2. 6th Returning 6/1 (Drift alert!). LOSE.

So, so far I've yet to completely shame myself. There's still time.

Today (11/01/2011)

Oh no... today i feel pressure.

I've got quite a few each way picks today, so without any more chit chat, here we go. My personal non tipping bets for today are as follows...

2.25 Towcester - VALSFIRTH @ 8/1 EACH WAY.
2.55 Towcester - AFISTFULLOFPEBBLES @ 16/1 EACH WAY.
3.55 Towcester - REINDEER DIPPIN @ 6/1 WIN.

1.45 Taunton - OLD WAY @ 16/1 EACH WAY.
2.15 Taunton - GEE DEE DEN @ 20/1 EACH WAY.
3.15 Taunton - POSH EMILY @25/1 EACH WAY. (I'm sorry, I always have to!)

And a couple from Wolverhampton too...

2.35 Wolverhampton - DASHO @ 14/1 EACH WAY.
3.05 Wolverhampton - MEMPHIS MAN @ 14/1 EACH WAY.
4.35 Wolverhampton - PRICKLES @ 10/1 EACH WAY.

Pressue pressure pressure.

Off to my studio now to get some WORK done. I'd usually be at Towcester, but have to milk the cows this afternoon aswell, so a full busy day but, hopefully another successful one.

Good luck to you all today, whatever you're on.

09/01/2011 MY FIRST BLOG.

Because of some words of encouragement from online pals 'following' me on twitter (@eachwayemily ). Because I keep having winners and gloating about them which, leads me to be shunned as an 'aftertimer'. Because my tweets of glee such as "JUST HAD THE 1,2,3 IN THE HUNTINGDON BUMPER" were met with doubtful responses, I have taken it upon myself to start a blog. A blog. Here is my blog.
This is not a tipping service. Not at all. DO NOT USE THIS AS A TIPPING SERVICE.
It is merely a summary of my bets to back up my gloats. Although I have probably shot myself in the foot now, and will never ever have a winner again. Ever.
I do not follow a method, or a system, or any relevant way of choosing horses. I just have little inklings and my own theories, or I pick horses because they are pretty.
I am a huge life long racing fan who has a bit of an eye for a good horse... sometimes, thanks to growing up around horses. Not in a feral sort of way. Well, maybe a bit feral.

Ok, now I've cleared all that up. Hello!

Yesterday. (08/01/2011)

Yesterday was of course the rescheduled day of the Welsh Grand National. My day consisted of just 3 bets which is a tiny Saturday for me. 2 each way bets, and one scoop 6 (Yes I know, one line... amateur/wimp).
Anyway, my scoop did what it normally does and blew up on the first leg.

My two ew bets were on the Welsh National.
Magic Sky @ 50/1 - PU
I'moncloudnine @20/1 - 3rd. RETURN.

Dispite I'moncloudnine being marked as one that wouldn't like the ground, I'm finding it ever impossible to ignore a Neil Mullholland runner in any chase.

Take the ante post each way money (25/1) on MIDNIGHT CHASE for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. You won't regret this.

Today (09/01/2011)

Today I am upset by the lack of jumping in the UK. This has happened a lot recently and has led me to have a lot of feelings.
We have some sandpit action at Southwell though! Not overly keen on this merrygoround racing, but I will have a bit of a bet in desperate times. Plus, i'm raring to get this blog on the go and could simply not wait untill tomorrow. You're probably thinking that there is always Leopardstown, but... as a rule, I don't bet on anything that I'd have to cross water to get to.

My bets today:

1.10 Southwell - Kheley @ 3/1 - WIN
2.45 Southwell - Fishforcompliments @ 11/1 EACH WAY
3.55 Southwell - Fair Bunny @ 7/2 WIN

I'd have a bet on Dontpaytheferryman in the 2.15 , probably the safest bet of the day, but don't fancy the odds on (2/5).

Well that's about it for today. Sorry for the disjointed attempt at my first blog entry. May the disjointedness continue!
See you tomorrow, that little bit richer.
